Grab your binoculars and head out to the Washington County Grasslands to look for Short-eared owls and other wintering raptors!  Join Friends of the IBA Executive Director Laurie LaFond & regular Field Trip leader Bo Harris on a guided tour of the IBA.  Likely sightings include Short-eared owls, Rough-legged hawks, Red-tailed hawks, Northern harriers, Horned larks, Snow buntings, Eastern bluebirds and more! Snowy owls possible. Group size limited; walk optional.

Grassland birds benefit ALL of us.  Unfortunately, the birds – and the grasslands they depend on - are disappearing from our countryside at an alarming rate.  Short-eared owls, Northern harriers, Eastern meadowlarks and Grasshopper sparrows are just a few of the grassland bird species who have seen their populations plummet by 70% - 90% or more!

Join Friends of the IBA (FIBA) at Saratoga Library on November 1st to learn about the hidden life of these mysterious owls and the habitat in our own back yard that’s critical to their survival! Join Friends of the IBA Executive Director Laurie LaFond and avid birder Bo Harris to see what’s happening in the IBA!  We’ll visit FIBA's Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Viewing Area and take a private tour of 64 acres of critical habitat we’re working to purchase. We’ll also visit NYSDEC’s Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and other prime birding sites nearby. Likely sightings include Northern harriers, kestrels, bluebirds, hawks, migrating warblers and dozens of other species!
