Join Friends of the IBA for the grand opening of our Alfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Viewing Area on Sunday, October 23. The site offers premier viewing of kestrels, harriers, hawks and breeding grassland songbirds, including Bobolinks, Savannah sparrows and Eastern meadowlarks. It’s also one of the best sites in the IBA for viewing wintering Short-eared and Snowy owls!

Join Friends of the IBA for a guided bird walk and tour in the Washington County Grasslands to look for and listen to breeding songbirds.  An avian chorus awaits, from the flute-like trill of the meadowlarks to the cheerful burbling of Bobolinks to the songs, trills, and twitters of dozens of other species that call the IBA home!

Join Friends of the IBA's experienced birders for a guided tour of birding hot spots in Northern Washington County! We'll visit a forest edge where we've often seen Golden-winged, Blue-winged, American Redstart, Black and White and other warblers, as well as Great Crested flycatcher, Rose-breasted grosbeak and many other woodland edge species. A visit to nearby fields usually yields sightings of Bobolinks and other grassland birds. Orchard oriole possible.

Join Friends of the IBA with leaders Rich Speidel and Laurie LaFond on a winter birding adventure as we look for wintering raptors and songbirds in the Washington County Grasslands Important Bird Area (IBA). Sightings last year included Red-tailed and Rough-legged Hawks, Northern Harriers and Snowy Owls Horned larks and Snow Buntings were common, especially after a fresh snow. We even had a Northern Shrike last year!
